How do I set up UniCam
Unicam is dedicated to making home security easy and accessible for everyone. With Unicam, you can convert your spare devices such as old mobile or tablet devices into security cameras, needing just two devices to set up your security system. The app is available on the Google Play Store and App Store.
Follow the steps below to set up your device as a camera.
Requirements
- Two devices:
- Viewer Device: The device you will use to watch the camera feed.
- Camera Device: The old mobile or tablet device you want to use as a camera.
- The latest version of the app installed on both devices.
- Unicam Account - Both devices logged into the same account.
- A power source for the Camera Device.
Setup Instructions
- Install the App:
- Download and install the app on both the Viewer Device and the Camera Device from your device's app store - Google Play Store, App Store or Huawei Store.
- Log In:
- Open the app on both devices.
- Log into both devices using the same account credentials.
- Set Up the Camera Device:
- On the Camera Device, open the app and select the option “Set up as Camera”.
- Ensure the Camera Device is plugged into a power source to keep it running continuously.
- If you want to switch roles and start using this device as a Viewer device or you accidentally selected the wrong option, you can go to “Settings” and select the “Switch to Viewer’ option under the “App Mode”
- Position the Camera Device:
- Place the Camera Device in the desired location, ensuring it has a clear view of the area you want to monitor.
- Use a stable stand or mount to keep the device secure.
- Connect and View:
- On the Viewer Device, open the app and log in with the same account credentials used for the Camera Device
- Select the option “Set up as Viewer”.
- The Camera Device should be automatically added to the app and listed under the “Remote Devices”.
- You should now be able to see the live feed from your Camera Device on the Viewer Device.
Troubleshooting
- No Video Feed:
- Ensure both devices are connected to the internet.
- Check that the Camera Device is properly logged in and set up as a camera.
- Verify the Camera Device is plugged into a power source.
- Poor Video Quality:
- Ensure the Camera Device has a stable internet connection.
- Try repositioning the Camera Device for better lighting and visibility.
- App Crashes or Freezes:
- Restart the app on both devices.
- Ensure both devices are running the latest version of the app.

- Camera - Unicam is a home security app that records and streams videos.
- Microphone - You can listen and talk to the Camera Device from your Viewer Device.
Please follow the instructions below to grant Unicam permissions:
Grant camera permission for iOS devices
- Open the Settings app on your Camera device.
- Scroll down and select Unicam, or use the search option to find it.
Toggle the switch next to the Camera to enable access.
Grant microphone permission for iOS devices
- Open the Settings app on your Camera device.
- Scroll down and select Unicam, or use the search option to find it.
Toggle the switch next to the Microphone to enable access.
Grant camera permission for Android devices
- Go to Settings on your Camera device.
- Tap on Apps & notifications (or Apps on some devices).
- Find and select Unicam from the list of apps.
- Tap on App Permissions.
- Select Camera and choose "Allow only while using the app".
- For Android 11+ devices, it is important to disable the "Remove permissions if app isn’t used" feature under the Unused apps. This will prevent the device from automatically removing the permissions, ensuring continuous access without the need to repeat the above process.
