Advanced Options
Integrating devices that are not on the local network is a more advanced aspect of using the UniCam app. This can be achieved through static IP addresses or DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) with port forwarding. This guide outlines the steps and considerations for setting up remote access to your cameras or devices via UniCam.
Setting Up Remote Access
1. Using Static IP Addresses or DDNS:
- Static IP Address: This is a fixed address assigned to your camera, which doesn't change over time. It can be used for remote access.
- DDNS: This service assigns a domain name to your network's dynamic IP address, making it easier to access your cameras remotely without needing to know the current IP address.
2. Configuring Port Forwarding:
- Accessing Router Settings: Consult your router's documentation to learn how to access its settings for port forwarding.
- Port Forwarding: This process involves redirecting a communication request from one address and port number combination to another while the packets are traversing a network gateway, such as a router or firewall.
3. Adding Cameras in UniCam:
- ONVIF Device Setup:
- When adding a camera as an ONVIF device, you may need to adjust port numbers for each channel.
- Custom port numbers can be assigned and port-forwarded to the camera’s local IP address.
- Custom Setup:
- For cameras supporting RTSP streams over HTTP ports, no additional setup is needed.
- If not, forward another port (e.g., 60002) to the camera's RTSP port (usually 554).
4. Configuring Camera Channels in the App:
- Managing Channels: Navigate to the camera channel management section in the UniCam app.
- Port Adjustments: Modify the channel port to correspond with the port forwarding settings in your router.
Considerations and Tips
- Router Configuration: Thoroughly understand your router’s settings. Improper configuration can lead to security vulnerabilities.
- Network Security: Ensure your network is secure, especially when setting up remote access to prevent unauthorized access.
- Regular Updates: Keep your router and camera firmware updated for optimal performance and security.
